The First Ever Mickie Nowlin Broomstick Bike Ride

Celebrating a Community Hero

We're thrilled to announce a special community event that honors a remarkable individual while supporting a cause dear to her heart. The inaugural Mickie Nowlin Broomstick Bike Ride on Saturday, October 26th, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the South Whidbey Community Center.

Remembering Mickie Nowlan—A Community Champion

Mickie was not only a significant beneficiary to the entire community, but she also played an invaluable role in enriching the lives of those around her. Her tireless dedication and unwavering commitment to various causes that were especially close to her heart left a lasting impact on our community. She devoted her time, energy, and resources to initiatives that she believed in passionately, ensuring that her efforts made a meaningful difference. Her selflessness and generosity continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her and benefiting from her kindness.

Mickie believed families and kids don’t need heroes but consistent support teams based on Family Support Principles and a village to call on when in need. She believed that the person being served and the care team held equal responsibility and reward for resolving the issues that prevent a child's readiness to learn. These teams were built from family, volunteers, and community professionals. The result was the lifting of many children and families to a better future.

Her commitment to serving others deepened when she moved to Whidbey Island, where she was the first director of the Readiness to Learn Program in the South Whidbey and Camano Island School Districts. This initiative provided essential resources for children and families in need, ensuring students had the support necessary to succeed academically and personally. Mickie's tireless efforts strengthened her community, offering hope and practical assistance to those who needed it most.
